Neon Tetra

Neon tetras belong to the Characidae family. They are adapted to clearwater and blackwaters water bodies in the Amazon and Orinoco river systems.

Their populations have been recorded in various South American nations, including Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. Neon tetras generally stay clear of the whitewater streams that originate from the Andes.

The waters in their natural habitats are soft and slightly acidic. The water temperature fluctuates between 20-26 °C as the rivers transverse through tropical areas.

Most wild-caught neon tetras are from Rio Solimões, which is the upstream region of the Amazon River.

Less than 5% of the neon tetras in the aquarium trade are caught from the wild. Most neon tetras in pet stores originate from large farms based in Hong-Kong, Singapore, and Thailand.

Albino Cherry Barbs

Cherry Barbs (Puntius titteya) are freshwater fish that are quite popular among aquarists. This has been the case for many years, and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a decrease in interest anytime soon!

These fish are a tropical species that comes from Sri Lanka. While there have been reports of this species being found in parts of Southern India, that hasn’t been scientifically verified.

The Cherry Barb has also been found in Columbia and Mexico with some trickling in to Panama. This species obviously didn’t get here on its own, humans brought them there. Even though this was most likely accidental, they quickly adapted to these waters as well.

Starlight Bristlenose Pleco

With their unique appearance and penchant for keeping algae at bay, Bristlenose Plecos (Ancistrus Cirrhosus in the Loricariidae family) are a great addition to any aquarium. They’re particularly popular among novice fish owners. These little critters are very easy to care for and can help improve the quality of the tank. Plus, they’re fun to watch!

Originally, Bristlenose Plecos come from the streams and tributaries in the Amazon Basin. Though, they can also be found throughout other parts of Central and South America as well.

These freshwater fish were first classified in the 1800s. Since then, they have become popular with aquarists all over the world. While they share many similarities to popular freshwater aquarium catfish and other Pleco species, Bristlenose Plecos are unique creatures with their own distinct needs.

Albino Corydora

The Albino Corydoras occurs throughout Trinidad and Columbia in the north as far south as the Rio de la Plata drainage at Uruguay and Argentina’s border in South America. They inhabit quiet, shallow running waters such as streams and rivers with a soft substrate that can sometimes be heavily polluted by clouds of disturbed mud from the bottom.

This Corydoras has a unique ability to breathe air from the water’s surface, making this one of the very few fish that can thrive in stagnant waters.
